In consideration of applicants' application strategies, patent layout, and patent commercialization timelines, the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office will introduce diversified examination services for design patents on September 1, 2023. This includes accepting applications for accelerated examination and simultaneously adjusting the deferred examination period for design patents.
 

Design Patent Accelerated Examination

Applicants who meet any of the following three conditions can receive a notice of examination results within 2 months after submitting the relevant documents:

(a) Third-party commercial implementation

(b) The design applied for has won renowned design awards domestically or internationally

(c) Design patent applications from innovative startups

Design Patent Deferred Examination

Regardless of whether the application claims priority, the deferred examination period will uniformly be set to within one year from the application date."
